Vascular Integrity

The Science Behind VI ByPass Syringe™

Engineered to protect sample quality at the point of collection.

Every blood draw is a chance for something to go wrong before the sample ever reaches the lab: red blood cells can be damaged, and contaminants can find their way in. The VI ByPass Syringe™ was designed to address both with two core technologies built into a single device.

Technology 1: VI Velocity Reduction Technology™

Gentler on blood cells

A 17G internal conduit is designed to slow and smooth the flow of blood as it enters the device, with the potential to help decrease device-related hemolysis while helping maintain vessel integrity.

Hemolysis is the most common source of error in laboratory samples. It can affect the results of several frequently ordered lab tests and is responsible for almost 60% of rejected samples, requiring re-collection.

VI Sliding Fluid Seal™

What the lab showed

In laboratory testing, the Sliding Fluid Seal™ separated over 99.9% of contaminates, even in a worst-case scenario.

Separating waste from the sample

An internal conduit seal separates waste and contaminates from whole blood, which can help improve sample quality. Together with the device’s blood diversion design, it may help minimize the risk of false-positive blood cultures.

Statistics show 10% of blood cultures drawn are positive and 3% of those are false. Each false positive may cost between $4,500 and $9,000 in additional hospital costs, and more than 1 million patients are placed at risk by false-positive results each year.
